Your community’s buried potable water lines are probably the last thing you think about – until they stop working, that is. Then, making a repair can be a daunting task, especially if the piping is aged and past its estimated useful life or if it requires replacement to where it connects to the municipal water system.
Trenched water Line Replacement
The conventional method for dealing with the repair or replacement of underground water lines requires that your community’s yards, sidewalks, driveways and roads had to be torn up in order to access the pipe. This can require community damaging equipment like backhoes, trenchers, or other heavy equipment. Use of this equipment on the surface can be destructive by itself, let alone the work that goes into fixing it once dug up.
Conventional methods of water line replacement also may require that walkways and driveways, landscaped areas of your yard, or the parking lot of your business be removed and then replaced once the job is finished. This adds to the expense of repair or replacement and needs to be considered when comparing the cost of conventional water line work over trenchless technology. Less invasive, trenchless water line repair can eliminate much of this work when you find the need to replace a water line pipe.
What is Trenchless Technology?
Contractors have increasingly added trenchless technology to their services. There are several methods of trenchless water line replacement and a professional can determine which is right for your situation. The beauty of trenchless technology is that only specific and strategized holes need to be made on your property in order to repair or replace the aged water lines. Using equipment, specifically designed to do the job, contractors are able to replace water lines, without the mess of conventional methods.
The two main trenchless methods for potable waterlines are “Pipe Bursting” and “Horizontal Directional Drilling”.

How Are Your Pipes?
Your community’s potable water system is an integral part of your community and often goes unnoticed until it breaks and lets you know a problem exists. Aged water systems can waste large amounts of water, be the reason for high water bills, cause health issues and create a major inconvenience for the entire community when a unit owner needs a simple plumbing project done and the isolation valves no longer work.
